From The Author

It’s a small world and we can, and should, make friends everywhere. It is very hard to understand this possibility, however, without a basic understanding of geography.

Looking at a map, I realized I could help my grandchildren develop a visual sense of the world by focusing on the water – the rivers and oceans – that connect us all.

A guide was needed: Shiny the Surfing Sea Star was born.

About the Process

I was inspired by the pioneering artist Matisse.

I love the vibrant colors offered by origami paper.

I realized, that through the universal language of cut-outs, I was able to present a strong graphic accompaniment to my stories.
